Some examples of cyber attacks in the industrial sector
Attack on Schneider Electric (2017)
The attack targeted industrial security systems used by Schneider Electric, including critical process control systems in infrastructures such as power plants. Triton/Trisis attempted to disable the security systems, which could have resulted in serious material or human damage.
Attack on Colonial Pipeline (2021)
The computer system of Colonial Pipeline, one of the largest pipeline networks in the USA, has been paralyzed by the DarkSide ransomware. The company was forced to temporarily halt operations, causing fuel shortages in several regions. Colonial Pipeline eventually paid a ransom of $4.4 million to regain access to its systems.
